Ben Sheppard captures nature through the use of
copper. Using hand tools, Ben represents the beauty of life
in nature with hammer strokes and scaled details. He enjoys
creating different types of birds & fish and is constantly trying
to make new images.
The study of each new subject has proven as exciting as the
actual design and sculpting of the piece itself. This study
has opened Ben's eyes to the complex beauty of each creature.
Working with the metal and researching new animal characteristics
has been a valued and continuous learning process. Ben entered
the field of metal area in the spring of 2003 at the encouragement
of his wife Dana and with the support of his kids Megan and
Joel.
With the encouragement of friends and family and with a desire
capture and cheer the eye, metal is hammered, welded and polished
to represent familiar figures of life. No power tools are used.
All shaping is done with hammer and hand, no molds or presses.
Recycle processes are used to the maximum extent possible to
add in the enjoyment of the art. The two things that bring Ben
the most pleasure in metal art are the people he gets to meet
and the building of a figure that actually resembles something
in our life.
