Wendi Metzer, a self taught jewelry artisan, was
first inspired by an introduction to metal fabrication while
she was attending college. Since that time she has worked with
numerous materials and techniques to produce her unique line
of jewelry.
A consistent factor in her early work was the love of nostalgia.
This love grew from an interest in collecting odds and ends
of heirlooms and vintage pieces of jewelry.
Over time she began to see these collectibles as historical
facts about people which, when combined, told a story about
their lives. From this concept was born the Memory Brooch and
the beginning of her work as a serious jeweler.
Wendi is usually inspired by a specific theme. Her interpretation
of that theme is reflected in a contemporary design using a
contrast in materials, textures and form, to carry the theme
to completion.
Although Wendi has moved on from the historical-collection pieces
she used to produce, it is clear that her interest in the intrinsic
nature of the components still plays a large part in her designs.
Wendi is a successful and recognized Northwest artist; her work
has been featured in national magazines and can be seen in many
galleries and select art festivals throughout the United States
and Hawaii.
