Wendi Metzer, a self taught jewelry artisan, was
first inspired by an introduction to metal fabrication while
she was attending college. Since that time she has worked with
numerous materials and techniques to produce her unique line
of jewelry.
For over 3 decades she's been fabricating jewelry in one form
or another. A consistent factor in her early work was the love
of nostalgia. This love grew from an interest in collecting
odds and ends of heirlooms and vintage pieces of jewelry. Her
designs often tell a story which reflects on the visions, images
and observations throughout her life and travels. Over time
she began to see these collectibles as historical facts about
people which, when combined, told a story about their lives.
From this concept was born the Memory Brooch and the beginning
of her work as a serious jewelry artisan. Wendi is usually inspired
by a specific theme. Her interpretation of that theme is reflected
in a contemporary design using a contrast in materials, textures
and form, to carry the theme to completion. Transcending seasons
and time her new work often incorporates sterling silver and
24k gold. She uses pearls, fossils, bone carvings, semi-precious
stones and bits & pieces of ancient history for a clean fresh
look.
Although Wendi has moved on from the historical-collection pieces
she used to produce, it is clear that her interest in the intrinsic
nature of the components still plays a large part in her designs.
Wendi's one-of-a-kind jewelry is influenced by her personal
studies and experiences. Her designs often tell a story which
reflects on the visions, images and observations throughout
her life and travels.
The true beauty of Wendi's jewelry is in the uniqueness and
quality of each detail. The distinct and unusual elements that
comprise each piece capture history, providing the owner with
a timeless work of wearable art. Wend is a successful and recognized
Northwest artist; her unique jewelry has been featured in national
magazines and is exhibited at fine art galleries throughout
the U.S. as well as up scale art venues.
Wendi and her husband Bill, both northwest natives, moved to
Port Townsend in 1997 from Portland OR, where they left behind
their corporate jobs so Wendi could devote her time, energy
and skills to continue working on her first love, jewelry fabrication
and design.
After years of pursuing her love of jewelry design and now a
successful jewelry artisan, Wendi, along with her husband, embarked
on a dream they both shared since early on in their marriage,
the love of artful things.
