| Patricia’s
basic design concept is to create a hand-knitted fabric with color, texture and
drape and then enhance it with design elements. She chooses her yarns carefully
and lets them tell the story rather than using the knitted stitches to make the
design.
Each piece is unique; the colors and styles reflect the seasons
and the designs are neither age-specific nor limited to any current fashion trend.
Her knitwear designs are light and playful yet practical.
The practical
element comes from her use of machine washable and dryable yarns of wool and acrylic,
and hand-washable bamboo, soy, silk, kelp, cotton and other natural fibers.
Patricia
likes to use yarns that have been both processed and manufactured in the United
States or Britain. She uses buttons from various sources -- sea shells, pottery
and antique -- to add interest to many of my designs.
Patricia’s background
includes art training at St. Martin’s School of Art in London. In her adult life
she studied off-loom weaving, sewing and photography, plus a lifelong interest
in fabric and texture has led her to explore how this can be expressed in knitwear
design.
Life has allowed Patricia to live and work in many cultures and
she now makes her home on the Olympic Peninsula in Sequim, WA. |
