Tangie was born in Portland, Oregon in 1951. She
lives on six acres in Sherwood, Oregon with her husband, two
dogs and cats. Her studio overlooks the surrounding wetlands.
After a twenty year career in real estate, she began painting
with an obsession and enthusiasm fueled by workshops, classes
and self study. She balances her painting obsession with her
love for horses, of which she owns one and rides three or four
mornings per week.
Tange doesn't like to plan her paintings; she likes them to
surprise her. And her life as a painter comes as a surprise
to those who knew her during her 20-plus years as a real estate
agent.
Today however, she's dedicated to painting and feels that she's
finally found her niche in nonrepresentational work. After years
of experimenting with various styles, she's found that excitement
in creating abstract paintings that convey the unique aspects
of her personality.
Exploration, experimentation and education have produced contemporary
works with complex texture united by simplicity of shapes. "When
I make a painting, I'm building an object, as well as creating
a record of its making. I enter into each piece intuitively
establishing a set of conditions to which I respond. Beyond
color and form, it's about a search for relationships that articulate
simultaneity of thinking and making "An imprint of duration."
Tangie has won several awards in both state and national shows
and is a lifetime signature member of both Northwest Watercolor
Society and National Watercolor Society and was recently juried
into the Portland Art Museum Gallery. Her paintings are found
in both public and private collections.
